Biography

Angel Pareja-Francisco is an accomplished flutist, educator, and orchestral musician whose passion for music has taken him across prestigious stages and institutions worldwide. Former Flute Professor at the Muscat Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra, Angel has established himself as a versatile and highly skilled musician with a wide track record of performances, awards and academic achievements.

Born in Spain, Angel’s musical journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, validated by Trinity College Dublin, in 2017. Under the guidance of esteemed professors William Dowdall and Patricia Morris, he honed his craft before pursuing advanced studies in the United Kingdom. He earned a Master’s in Flute Performance in 2020 and a Postgraduate Diploma in 2021 from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, studying with renowned flutists such as Kevin Gowland, Susan Milan, Laura Jellicoe, Joshua Batty and Cormac Henry. His academic excellence was recognized with scholarships, including the Charles Greenhough Award, Rowland Hardy Award, Helen R. Mackaness Charitable Trust, and Waverley Fund. In 2024, Angel completed a Master’s in Musical Research at the Universidad Internacional de Valencia, with a thesis exploring the use of vibrato in Mozart’s Flute Concerto in D Major.

Angel’s career is marked by a rich history of orchestral and solo performances. He has served as Assistant Principal Flute with the Iberian Sinfonietta and invited to perform with ensembles such as the Larios Soho Symphony Orchestra, Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra, Northern Film Orchestra, Ceuta International Symphony Orchestra, Orbis Symphony Orchestra, Esker Festival Orchestra, Alicante Festival Orchestra, Malaga Camerata, Vartanian Symphony Orchestra, Michael Haydn Symphony Orchestra, Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, Trinity Symphony Orchestra, RNCM Opera Orchestra, RNCM Symphony Orchestra, Eurochestries International Orchestra and JOPMA. He has worked under the direction of renowned conductors, including Elim Chan, Gerhard Markson, Andrew Gourlay, Delyana Lazarova, Martin Andre, Arturo Díez Boscovich, Santiago Otero, Leung Kin-Fung, Rita Castro, Kenneth Montgomery, Andrew Mogrelia, Teresa Riveiro and Sir Mark Elder. He has also recorded solo flute for television and radio in Spain, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

His orchestral engagements span collaborations with prominent groups like the Hallé Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, and Manchester Camerata, where he has performed as second flutist. Notable solo performances include the world premiere of J. Grundman’s On the Back of a Nightingale with the Iberian Sinfonietta in 2023, J.S. Bach’s Suite No. 2 with The Hallé Orchestra in 2020, Reinecke’s Flute Concerto with the Trinity Symphony Orchestra in 2017 and Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G Major with the Dublin Symphony Orchestra in 2016.

A sought-after chamber musician, Angel has performed in recitals across Europe, including at the Teatro Cervantes, Picasso’s Museum and the Maria Cristina Hall in Málaga, the National Concert Hall and the Ateneo in Madrid, the National Gallery of Ireland and the National Concert Hall in Dublin, the Jardín Nazarí and the Manuel de Falla Concert Hall in Granada, the Whitworth Gallery and the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, the Lope de Vega Theater in Seville or the Convention Center in Jonzac, France. His innovative performances, such as those featuring electric flute and prepared piano, showcase his versatility and commitment to expanding the flute’s expressive possibilities. He has also premiered commissioned works, including pieces by Lucas Falcao Andreo, Aaron Breeze, Jorge Grundman o Joan Valent.

Angel’s dedication to music education is evident in his teaching roles, including his recent position at the Muscat Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra, past professorships at the Ateneo de Música y Danza in Malaga and the Hibernia Academy in Dublin. His artistry has been refined through masterclasses with flutists like Sir James Galway, William Bennett, Michie Bennett, Andrea Oliva, Adam Walker, Kersten McCall, Janet Richardson, Emily Beynon, Michelle Belavance, Emma Elkinson, Magdalena Martínez, Lorna McGhee, Kristian Steenstrup, Javier Castiblanque and Vicens Prats, further enriching his interpretive depth.

Recognized for his exceptional talent, Angel has received numerous awards, including the ‘Da Camera’ Prize for chamber music at Teatro Cervantes (2022), Specially Commended Mention Award at the Tunbridge Wells International Music Competition (2022), First Prize at the Young Musician of the Year UK in Huddersfield (2020), and finalist positions in prestigious competitions such as the RNCM Gold Medal and RNCM Concerto Competition. His contributions to music have also been supported by scholarships from Altus UK and the Miguel Arista Foundation.
